8km // Food market every Monday morning

A traditional food market, one of the largest in the region, in the imposing medieval market hall and on the surrounding town square. The beamed market hall is a 16th century reconstruction of the original 12th century building which was badly damaged in World War 2 and is the hub of activity with local honey, apple juice, saucisson (cured sausage) and even ducklings and rabbits on offer. 

There is also a large brocante (antiques market) in the market hall on the first Sunday of every month. ​

20km // Every Saturday morning

In this large market of the Pays D'Auge's capital, you'll be tempted by a huge array of local produce - from fresh cherries and plums to local cheeses and meats. There are plenty of non-food stalls as well selling jewellery, books and clothes. Once you have finished your shopping, enjoy the market bustle from one of the cafes on the main square.

Livarot is a delightful small market town in the heart of the Pays d'Auge, renowned for its distinctive soft cheese as well as the local apple juice, cider and calvados. One of its most recent claims to fame was as the departure town for a Normandy stage of the Tour de France, an event that drew thousands of visitors to its charming main street. 

50km // Every Saturday, and more frequently in summer

A little further afield, this chic seaside town is worth a visit when its main market square comes to life. Be warned - food is more expensive than in Lisieux, but there is a wide range of stalls selling very desirable clothes, jewellery and bags. Plus this is the plaice (no pun intended) to buy fresh shellfish and fish while other stalls sell regional cheeses and local honey as well as apple juice, cider and Calvados.
